This beautiful Gothic building was constructed in 1829,designed by the famous architect John Semple and currently owned by the Hovenden family. The structure has recently undergone restoration to the roof and windows. According to Dr. Maurice Craig the famous architectural historian ' Feighcullen is by a large margin the most accomplished and attractive church of it's kind." Feighcullen is listed as part of Ireland's Architectural Heritage.
The construction is of finely cut limestone with a graceful Gothic style entrance door and an imposing belfry with a beautiful steeple, the bell is still in place. There are four matching smaller steeples on each corner of the building, adding to it's elegance and symmetry. There are ten large lancet-arch gothic style windows (five on each side of the building) plus a large traceried (three light) window to the east gable end, as seen in the photograph. All windows have been replaced recently, they are double glazed and the frames are made of hardwood with chamfered stone surrounds. The roof is of hand picked and matched Blue Bangor slate.
The building is attractively set back off the Naas Rathangan road at the end of a lovely newely graveled private avenue. It is a very pleasant landmark from the road and the surrounding countryside. The views are across beautiful rolling countryside to the Hill of Allen and beyond.
